Mindrolling Monastery, Dehradun

 



Situated in Clement Town in Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Mindrolling Monastery is a centre of spiritual activity for the Tibetan Buddhist community. Set up in 1965, the monastery enshrines 60m high Great Stupa and is adorned with beautiful murals and paintings. 

Mindrolling Monastery, which follows the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism, was founded by Khochhen Rinpoche who escaped to India during the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959. The monastery has a 35m-high gold statue of the Buddha.

The monastery also houses Ngagyur Nyingma College, which promotes literary studies of Tibetan Buddhism.
